Spurs shoot down Nets

The San Antonio Spurs had their best shooting night of the season in a 104-73 victory over the Brooklyn Nets on Monday in San Antonio.

The Spurs shot .589 (43-73) from the field. The Spurs’ dominating performance allowed their starters to sit out the entire fourth quarter.

The Spurs outscored the Nets 30-5 in the third quarter and led 85-52 heading into the fourth quarter. That was one of the most dominant quarters of basketball the Spurs have played - like just about ever.

“It was an amazing quarter for us,” Spurs guard Manu Ginobili said. “Only allowing five points in a quarter is something that does not happen often but we were aggressive defensively and they did not make shots.”

“We played great defense in the third quarter,” Parker said. “We tried to make an effort defensively and Coach Popovich has been talking a lot about that and it has been a huge improvement for us the last two games. Defense has been great and we are on the right track.”

The Spurs finished 9-0 at home in December - beat Grizzlies, Bucks, Rockets (twice), Celtics, Hornets, Mavericks, Raptors and now Nets.

Nets coach P.J. Carlesimo has lots of happy memories of San Antonio. He won’t add tonight’s game to that list.

Spurs starters: Tony Parker, Danny Green, Kawhi Leonard, Tim Duncan and Tiago Splitter.
